I decided to include this little tidbit about the ginkgo biloba extract when I saw that Dr. Konstantinov, the programmer of the book, is an advisor to the Russian authorities. I also read this in Russia, and there were many physicians practicing ginkgo biloba extract. I found it curious that Dr. Konstantinov includes it here as a very helpful wellness supplement because it is very controversial. The simple fact he admits that and writes about it makes me wonder just what his motives are.
(MENTULARY FUNCTIONS OF Ginkgo Biloba Leaf Extract): The Chinese have used ginkgo biloba for centuries, and there is no doubt it has favorable effects on the memory, mood, concentration, etc, but there are also claims it may slow the development of Alzheimer’s, a disease that contributes to death. If accurate, this would signify that ginkgo biloba can stop the worsening of the disease which all experts agree is one of the most serious problems facing us today. Alzheimer’s is a degenerative disease that destroys the brain tissues and triggers the psychological decline known as dementia, which gradually becomes worse over time without a cure. That is why everyone wants to know if ginkgo biloba can protect against dementia.
Regrettably, there are still no studies on these, but there have been some promising results in clinical trials with extracts from the ginkgo biloba tree. In one study, mice were given a small quantity extract daily. A few of the results demonstrated that the mice did have a lesser risk of developing cataracts. But more study is required to understand whether these results are valid or not, especially since there are still so many doubts regarding side effects.
